The Federal Firefighters Fairness Act of 2022 establishes an automatic presumption of entitlement to benefits through FECA for federal firefighters who have been employed in fire protection activities for 5 years or more and have been diagnosed with one or more of the referenced illnesses.
The following illnesses include:
Brain Cancer
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,
Colorectal cancer,
Esophageal cancer,
Kidney cancer
Leukemias,
Lung Cancer,
Mesothelioma,
Multiple myeloma
Non- Hodgkin lymphoma,
Prostate cancer,
Skin cancer (melanoma)
Testicular cancer,
Thyroid cancer, and
Sudden cardiac event or stroke not later than 24 hours after being exposed to a work-related fire incident
